Chalayan: PFW Street Style Collection
A street style exploration of Chalayan's innovative and alternative luxury fashion weaving through the infrastructure of the Parisian refugee crisis.
Laiqa Miriam photographs the renowned Hussein Chalayan's FW2018 collection during her time working under the luxury house's Head of Sales and Commercial Director in London and Paris.
This season, Chalayan used his sartorial exploration to to comment on his personal response to immigration and integration in the banlieue of Paris. His visual narrative draws from the Périphérique ring road in Paris that lead to some of the large immigrant populations that sit at the edge of the city. Chalayan metaphysically weaves his own lived experience as a Turkish-Cypriot refugee into this season's collection.
“This is an ongoing interest of mine,” Chalayan said after the show. “Outside of Paris, for me, is the ultimate epitome of what could happen if you allow a segregated society. So I use that as my core and for me that’s the heart of the collection.”
